Teak decks can withstand the test of time with the right care and attention. As a combination of tough and soft wood pieces, teak is both strong and gentle, but if not properly maintained, its soft surface will wear away easily.
Household solvents, high pressure cleaners, and hard brushes should not be used, as these will remove the softer parts of the wood, resulting in an unpleasant, ridged surface. When using cleaning solutions, make sure to choose the ones that are suitable for teakwood. We highly recommend using Just Teak
You can also bring back the lustre of your teakwood by sanding it with 120-grit sandpaper while moving it in the same direction as the grain. To reduce the amount of work needed on larger surfaces, an orbital sander can be used. Once sanded, use a tack cloth to remove any dust before applying a thin coat of teak oil or sealer, applied with a natural bristle brush.
Maintaining your teak deck will ensure your boat continues to look new for longer and save you money on refits.
